We intervene preventively in the protection of existing structures by installing stone-proof screens which are capable of stopping or slowing down any rocks which may have come away from the vertical walls overhanging the road.

The current coastal road or the secondary roads up in the caldera of Salazie are fine examples of projects carried out in Reunion Island. In Mayotte, we also used these stone-proof screens in road safety projects.

Sometimes these screens are used to protect structures other than roads: in this photo, a gabion merlon was used to protect a dam in the Saint Denis river.

INEXENCE Réalisation - Indian Ocean was set up in 2008 to carry out the construction of the gabion protection wall of Reunion’s existing coastal road, and was a world first with more than 50,000 m3 of prefabricated gabions !

And 10 years later, having travelled all the roads of the islands of Reunion Island and Mayotte, INEXENCE is providing gabion protection to the steep embankment of the dikes of the Reunion’s New Coastal Road..
